Near misses

Sometimes I think about random things that have happened in my life that could have turned out so differently...

When I was very young (under 9), I lived "in the country" and me and the neighbor kids would take our bikes up this big hill near our houses and ride them down at unsafe speeds...when you got to the bottom of the hill, it merged into another road and we'd come screaming down the hill into that road...it is a miracle none of us were ever killed.

When I was in my early 20s, the guy I was living with had this inexplicable urge to take me to work and keep the car on a day where he would NEVER do such a thing. Normally, he'd sleep in and I'd come back at lunch if he wanted the car for the day. Because he decided to take me at the last minute, we were delayed very slightly while he put his shoes on. As he was driving me to work, a few blocks ahead of where we were, a car sped through a stop sign...if I'd left when I had planned, I would have been T-boned on the drivers side of my car.

Today I took my car into the shop because my dad, told me the breaks sounded like they needed to be replaced. I'm driving to my next assignment this weekend so I wanted to get it taken care of before I hit the road. Well, he was wrong...my breaks were fine...but one of my tires was literally splitting apart where the tread meets the wall of the tire. They said if it had gotten heated, it would have basically just exploded.

If that had happened at highway speeds like I'll be driving this weekend, I'm suspecting it wouldn't have been good.

I have a weird feeling that you are going to be where I'm going on this assignment. I have this strange feeling that I am going to get there and never leave...maybe not the specific city but the general area.

I can't wait to meet you, to see your place. I can't even begin to envision it in my mind what it will be like. Do you have a pool? A nice outdoor space where we can cuddle up in the evenings? I can almost see you standing over a grill, cooking for an afternoon BBQ with friends...a nice, normal, unassuming afternoon...maybe watching football? Then making love afterward? The possibilities are truly endless.
