How I Travel

I have traveled enough that I tend to do it in a fairly laid back sort of way.
I remember once going through airport security, knowing my destination but having absolutely no clue what airport I was connecting through (i.e. where I was flying first) without looking at my boarding pass.
Because honestly, until I'm at the airport, what difference does it make?
I only fly Delta now unless there is some EXTREMELY extenuating circumstance. Yes it's more expensive but the added expense in exchange for the customer service, reliability, professionalism, everything else...is more than worth it.
I do have a favorite pillow. I can not tell you the devastating week I spent in DC after I left it in my taxi. And then of course, I had no idea in which airport I'd found it and I spent MONTHS looking for it. Then finally, in the Denver airport, I found it! I was elated, wrote down the brand, and have had one or two ever since. (And I've never lost another one!).
I pack the night before or morning of a trip as long as it's not for more than a week or two. Actually, even if it's more than a week or two...I'm not packing more than the night before.
When I'm driving across the country...I will drive two hours out of my way to avoid Chicago. I tried just one hour south but it wasn't enough. I LOATH Chicago. The airport, the traffic, the subway (OMG!), did I mention the traffic? I swear I've never gotten out of O'Hare on time. Though I don't completely blame this on Chicago...it is a United hub after all.
I also tend to prefer not to have reservations or firm destinations in mind unless I absolutely have to if I'm driving. I like to be able to drive as far as I feel like and then stop when I'm ready. Some days I can drive 14 hours straight with no problem, other days 6-8 is all I have in me. There are times that I want to stay somewhere cool I will make a reservation ahead of time but I always make sure I give myself enough time so I'm not forced to drive 14 hours to get there.
I prefer Airbnbs if I'm staying for a while, I'm with a group, or I'm driving a car I don't want parked at a motel. Though if I am going to stay at a motel with a car like that, I tend to prefer a nice one that has a door to the outside so I can park my car there as opposed to having it four floors down in a big, crowded parking lot on the other side of the building.
I know you love to travel as well.
What is your style? What are the things you have to take with you everywhere? What are your favorite places? Will my carefree style drive you crazy? For some reason I think it will...but when we travel together, I'll let you worry about those things you feel compelled to monitor and I'll go where you tell me when you tell me to and we'll manage.
